ABSTRACT

The presynaptic reuptake of norepinephrine is selectively inhibited by atomoxetine hydrochloride, or [ATX, (-)-N-methyl-?-(2- methylphenoxy) benzene propanamine]. An ortho-methyl phenoxy analog of nisoxetine, ATX is a (-) isomer and a phenoxy propylamine analogue. The FDA has approved its first non-stimulant medication for the therapy of attention- deficient hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Atomoxetine hydrochloride. The most frequently seen neurobehavioral condition in children, ADHD, develops symptoms in certain individuals that persist till adulthood.
