ABSTRACT
Diabetes mellitus is a major global epidemic over the past few decades. The prevalence of
diabetes has been increased worldwide and has reached alarming levels around the world, 463
million people have diabetes in the world and there are about 88 million people in the Southeast
Asia region. Of this 88 million people, 77 million are from India. According to the IDF the
prevalence of diabetes in the population is 8.9%. Although, synthetic oral hypoglycemic
agents/insulin is the mainstream treatment of diabetes and effective in controlling
hyperglycemia, they have prominent side effects and have failed to significantly alter the course
of diabetic complications. This forms the main reason for an increasing number of people finding
alternative therapies that may have less severe or almost no side effects. The present study was
based on Polyherbal formulations and the products available in market for treatment of Diabetes.
