ABSTRACT
ntranasal drug delivery is an optimistic and convenient way for delivery of drugs which are
ineffective orally due to extensive hepatic metabolism. The CNS acting drugs which are
required to be present in optimum concentration in brain can be best possibly administered by
nasal route. The objective of this study was to prepare nasal in-situ gel of an anti-Alzheimer
drug Memantine HCl for nasal administration. The nasal in-situ gel was formulated using ion
induced gelling polymer like gellan gum. Mucoadhesive property of gel increases the nasal
residence time of drug, which results in enhanced absorption. FTIR and DSC studies were
carried out to check the compatibility between drug and excipients used in formulation. The
formulations were evaluated for various parameters such as gelation, viscosity, drug content,
drug release properties along with good mucoadhesive strength.
