ABSTRACT
The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a pandemic which has covered the entire
world. It is responsible for 12-000-15,000 or more new infections every day and the
community acquiring sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are prone to easily acquire these
HIV infections.
The objective of the present review is to summarize various anti-HIV drug delivery systems,
along with drugs that have been developed for targeting HIV.
Novel drug delivery system gives an opportunity to bypass the shortcomings related to the
anti-retroviral treatment. It helps in addressing towards the complexity of dosage form
development such as instability, insolubility and limited entrapment of the drugs.
The present review highlights the prospects and strategies of novel drug delivery systems
that may be highly useful for prevention as well as treatment of HIV infections.
