DESIGN, SYNTHESIS, CHARACTERIZATION, AND BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITY OF SOME TRANSITION METAL COMPLEXES VIA NOVEL MANNICH BASE LIGAND Authors: K. Govindarajan And M. Ramesh*
ABSTRACT
From the mannich base 2-((2,6-dioxocyclohexyl) (2-hydroxyphenyl) methyl) hydrazine
carboxamide (1), a series of metal(II) complexes (1a-1e) ML with M = Cu(II), Ni(II), Fe(II),
Cr(II), and Mn(II) were prepared and studied by electronic, IR, and NMR (1H & 13C ) spectra,
and molar conductivity measurements. The complexes are nonelectrolytes, according to
conductivity measurements. All complexes have octahedral geometry, according to spectroscopy
and other analytical investigations. The disc diffusion technique was used to test the antibacterial
activity of ligand (1) and metal complexes (1a-1e) against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia
coli, Klebsiella pneumaniae, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The metal complexes (1a-1e) were
more effective than the control Ciprofloxacin.
