ABSTRACT
The Nigerian health sector faces huge problem of increasing infectious and non-communicable
diseases due to grossly insufficient healthcare facilities, programmes and personnel. Community
Pharmacists’ public accessibility, timely drug administration and pharmaceutical care are vital in
the entire medication procedures. The study advocates urgent multidisciplinary approach to boost
public health capacity and delivery system. The aim is to identify feasible Public health activities
that could be performed in Community pharmacies and interventions that could mitigate barriers
and improve public health practice by Community pharmacists in Nigeria. Three rounds of
Delphi study were sequentially carried out. Experts consensus was reached when 70% of the
community pharmacist either chose ‘5’ or ‘4’ on the likert scale. A two-tailed significance value
of p < 0.05 was used. 15-20 Experts participated in each round. Out of the 88 items identified as
feasible, consensus was reached on 81 activities and on 18 interventions. The impact of the study
was gauged on the implications of Nigeria burgeoning healthcare system and rising public health
emergencies across the country. Based on findings and results, the study submits that Community Pharmacists alongside other medical professionals play critical role in mitigating
rising public health emergencies across the country and in the development and advancement of
sustainable and affordable healthcare system in Nigeria.
